In 2021 Australia exported 2,784 metric kilotons of barley to Saudi Arabia, exceeding the export quantity to Australia's former major barley buyer, China. In recent years the Australian barley export market has undergone a major shift, largely due to Chinese imposition of trade sanctions on Australian barley.
