Number of job-to-job moves in the UK 2001-2023, by reason

During the fourth quarter of 2021 job-to-job moves in the United Kingdom reached record levels, with 378,000 of these job-to-job moves being resignations, compared with just 28,000 moves brought about by dismissal or redundancy. A further 26,000 of these job moves were due to personal reasons, while around 681,000 were for other reasons. As of the second quarter of 2023, there were 335,000 resignations, 81,000 dismissals or redundancies, and 11,000 job-to-job moves for family or personal reasons.
