With the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in early 2020, retail sales of building materials and supplies in the United States initially stalled, before significantly increasing from May onwards. That year, before the pandemic hit, year-on-year sales growth remained under 10 percent. Afterwards, as more and more people took up DIY and home improvement projects, sales growth reached its highest level in June, when sales increased by 23.6 percent in comparison to June 2019.
