Global share of blockchain patents in 2021, by country
As of 2021, China was the largest owner of blockchain-related patents, accounting for 84 percent of global patents. Despite the country banning the mining and use of cryptocurrencies, the interest in blockchain technology remained high. In the same year, the number of patent applications in China almost reached 16 thousand.
