Health expenditure breakdown in China 1980-2021, by source
In 2021, social health expenditure, which includes mainly inputs from social medical security contributions and commercial medical insurance, accounted for nearly half of the total health spending in China. The other 55 percent is almost equally divided by government expenditure and cash payments of residents when receiving medical and health services.
