Nordics: ODA 2020 by income level of recipient

Of the net official development assistance given by the Nordic countries, unallocated aid made up the highest sum. For instance, of the 3.1 billion U.S. dollars given by Norway in 2020, almost 1.8 billion were unallocated. The second highest sums went to the least developed countries. Sweden allocated the highest total net sum.

The source adds the following information: 'Official development assistance (ODA) is defined as government aid designed to promote the economic development and welfare of developing countries. Loans and credits for military purposes are excluded. Aid may be provided bilaterally, from donor to recipient, or channeled through a multilateral development agency such as the United Nations or the World Bank. Aid includes grants, "soft" loans and the provision of technical assistance. The OECD maintains a list of developing countries and territories; only aid to these countries counts as ODA.'

No ODA has been distributed to advanced developing countries from the Nordic countries since 2017.

Net ODA is the amount given by a donor less repayments of loans.
