Africa accounted for 3.9 percent of the world's emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) from fossil fuels and industry in 2021. In the last two decades, the continent's contribution to the global greenhouse gas emissions fluctuated between 3.4 percent and 3.9 percent - the smallest share among all world's regions.
