Energy-related CO₂ emissions in selected U.S. states 2021, by sector
Texas has the largest energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. in 2021, at 664 million metric tons (MtCO₂). The state's industrial sector was responsible for roughly 36 percent of this total, while transportation accounted for 32 percent. By comparison, the transportation sector accounted for more than 50 percent of California's energy-related emissions that year.
