In October 2020, an estimated 1.7 thousand patients a day were treated for pregnancies with abortive outcome in Japan. This included the number of patients who had an ectopic pregnancy, hydatidiform mole, spontaneous and medical abortion, among others.

The survey was conducted at medical facilities on one designated date set for each institution from three days in October.
The estimated number of patients refers to the number of patients who received treatments at medical facilities on the surveyed day. It excludes the number of returning outpatients who were not treated during that period.
