In a survey conducted in September 2021, Southeast Asians of legal driving age were asked for potential developments that could lead them to switch to an electric car eventually. Among respondents from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, most stated that they would wait until electric cars worked as well or better as combustible-engine or hybrid cars. Thai respondents also wished for a sufficient number of charging stations. This was also the second most commonly stated incentive in Singapore, after potential privileges for owning an electric car, for example in the form of tax rebates.
