Supplementary notes

Figures relate to share of valid votes only, and not the share of the population or electorate.

*Moldova's independence from the USSR was declared on August 27, 1991, by the Moldovan Parliament. The referendum in 1994 asked if the public wanted to remain an independent state; although not specified, most viewed a vote against independence as a vote in favor of unification with Romania.

Post-Soviet states that did not hold independence referendums were Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
