Leading causes of death in Paraguay 2020, per group
The leading cause of death in Paraguay in 2020 was ischemic heart disease. During that year, around 3,406 people died from this condition, also known as coronary heart disease, which affects blood supply into the heart due to narrowed arteries. Diabetes mellitus was the second cause of mortality in the South American country, with around 2,922 deaths, whereas approximately 2,595 individuals died from COVID-19 that same year.
