In 2021, Belgium spent the most of its defence expenditure on personnel with 56.31 percent, despite its share decreasing somewhat since 2014 when it was 77.84 percent. Instead, an increasing share has been spent on equipment, as it was just 3.52 percent of the total expenditure in 2014 compared to 18.03 percent in 2021. The expenditure share of infrastructure has stayed somewhat stable, ranging between 0.93 percent and 1.81 percent.
