During the 2022 fiscal year, the number of passengers transported on the Washington, D.C. transit authority (WMATA) network amounted to approximately 157 million, a considerable year-over-year increase of 74 percent. The WMATA is a tri-jurisdictional government agency responsible for public transit in the Washington metropolitan area. It operates the Washington Metro, a fixed-route bus service (Metrobus), and a paratransit service under the name of MetroAccess.
