Share of Super LVI ads including people of color 2022
The majority of ads aired during Super Bowl LVI on February 13, 2022, featured Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC). Among brands returning to the big game, 89 percent of their ads featured BIPOC people, while first-time advertisers featured BIPOC people in 71 percent of their ads. A trend of increasing diversity in ads came amid calls for the National Football League (NFL) to be more inclusive in its coaching hires. Diversity and inclusion were underlying themes of Super Bowl LVI, with the halftime show showcasing a predominantly Black all-star roster of hip hop and R&B royalty that included names such as Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, and Snoop Dogg.
