Japan: number of unemployed job seekers by gender and method 2022

In 2022, the average number of unemployed men searching for a job in Japan via advertisements or magazines amounted to roughly 370 thousand, while the number of women was about 320 thousand. This was the most common way for the unemployed to search for a job, regardless of gender. Another popular avenue was to apply for assistance at the Public Employment Security Office.

1. with no job and did no work at all during the reference week (other than employed person)
2. ready to work if work is available
3. did any job seeking activity or preparing to start a business within one month including the reference week (including waiting on the outcome of job seeking activity done in the past)
