In the fiscal year 2023, Japan collected around 10.56 thousand tons of automotive lead-acid batteries, decreasing from 10.7 thousand in the previous year. Automotive lead-acid batteries are rechargeable (secondary) batteries, usually starting the engine and powering the vehicle electronics, not to be confused with automotive lithium-ion batteries for powering the propulsion motor in the case of electric vehicles.
