In 2020, Europe had the largest hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) capacity worldwide, at 3.5 million metric tons. North America was the region with the second largest HVO capacity, at 1.9 million metric tons. According to the 2021 study, HVO capacity in North America is forecast to surpass Europe, reaching 12.6 million metric tons by 2025.
