Share of the French who believe democracy works badly in France 2009-2022
According to a recent study, in 2020 France went from being a "complete democracy" to a "failing democracy", just like the United States or Spain. The pandemic seems, to some extent, to have revealed the structural inadequacies of the French democratic system, and its difficulty in dealing with the ecological, social, and health crises. However, if 56 percent of French people believed that democracy was not working well when they were surveyed about it in June 2022, many more shared this opinion in 2018, before the pandemic.
