European viewer opinions on EU original content requirement 2021
A new policy recently implemented by the European Union, the Audiovisual Media Service Directive, requires subscription video-on-demand services operating in the European Union to source at least 30 percent of their content "locally," defined as being from within Europe. The majority of European viewers across selected countries surveyed in August 2021 agreed either that the 30 percent requirement is proper, or that the EU should not have any requirement for locally produced content. Over half of respondents in Germany agreed with the latter, while around 50 percent of Spanish and Frence people interviewed said that the policy is proper.
