Petrol tax value and taxed quantity in Germany 2018-2020
In 2020, the German government taxed approximately 22.8 million cubic meters of petrol, to an excise duty amount just under 15 billion euros. One cubic meter of petrol that year was worth around 654 euros in excise taxes. Overall, both taxed quantities and tax due had dropped down between 2019 and 2020. In March 2022, the German government had put in place tax cut measures to offset the fuel price inflation brought on by the war in Ukraine.
