Fatalities from political violence in Africa 2015-2019, by region
As of 2019, Western Africa topped all African regions with the highest number of fatalities resulting from political conflicts, including riots, battles, explosions, and violence against civilians. In 2019, 10,649 conflict victims were registered in that part of the continent. Nevertheless, it marked a decrease from 2015 when roughly 12,500 victims were registered. On the other hand, Central Africa was the region with the most stable political situation, keeping a constant trend of political victims with an average of around 200. Overall, the number of fatalities due to political violence decreased in all parts of the continent in 2019 compared to 2015.
