U.S. capacity in interconnection queues by source 2022

In 2022, the generation, storage, and hybrid electricity capacity in interconnection queues in the United States amounted to some two terawatts. Solar and solar hybrid projects had the highest capacity in queues in 2021, at 491 and 431 gigawatts, respectively. By comparison, solar capacity projects in interconnection queues in 2010 accounted for only 50 gigawatts.

According to the source, interconnection queue data through the end of 2022 was compiled for seven independent system operators (ISOs) and 35 utilities, serving about 85 percent of all U.S. electricity load.
Only projects listed in queue records as "active" were included. Projects listed as "online", "withdrawn" or "suspended" were excluded.
For hybrid projects that include storage, only the generator capacity is included.
