EU-27: civil aviation CO₂ emissions by type 1990-2021

European Union civil aviation was responsible for 78.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂) in 2021, of which international aviation accounted for 88 percent. EU aviation CO₂ emissions plummeted in 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19, and although they rebounded in 2021, they were well below pre-pandemic levels.
