Germany released approximately 762 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2021 - an increase of 4.5 percent compared with the previous year. In 2020, emissions plummeted almost nine percent due to COVID-19-related lockdowns and restrictions, which had a significant impact on transportation and other polluting industry sectors.
