Death rate associated and attributable to antimicrobial resistance globally in 2019
Bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become one of the leading public health threats of the 21st century. Worldwide the rate of deaths directly attributable to AMR amounted to 16.4 deaths per 100,000 population in 2019, while the death rate for associated deaths was 64 per 100,000 population. Sub-Saharan Africa had the highest associated and attributable AMR death rates among all regions.
