Sports betting refers to a type of gambling in which consumers place bets on the outcome of sports events. As of December 2021, the most important factors among regular sports bettors when choosing a sports betting service in the United States varied by importance. Approximately 60 percent of sports bettors considered the ease of cashing out to be very important, while only 21 percent of sports bettors considered that same category to be somewhat important. Most sports betting takes place online, as can be seen when looking at sports betting revenue in the U.S. by betting type, where online revenue was forecast to reach over three times as much as land-based revenue by 2025.
