According to an August 2021 survey, the view that social media had a negative effect was highest among Republicans, with 60 percent citing negative impact on people like themselves. This figure falls to 55 percent among Independents, and 48 percent among Democrats. The same survey found that, overall, 56 percent of respondents consider social media to have a negative impact on people like themselves.
