Status of NDC submissions in Africa 2022
As of May 2022, 45 African countries had submitted an updated version of their first Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), indicating their commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in order to limit the increase in global temperature. Since the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015, countries have agreed to make new climate commitments every five years. In Africa, Cote d'Ivoire was the last country to release an updated NDC. Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Djibouti, Gabon, Lesotho, and Madagascar have submitted only their first NDCs. Lastly, Libya was the only country in the African continent that did not submit any NDC.
