In 2021, the average land transfer fees in tier-one cities in China surpassed 8500 yuan per square meter. Land transfer fees in tier-two and smaller cities were significantly lower. Due to a lack of other sources of income, many regional capitals and small cities in China are highly dependent on revenue generated by land transfers, posing a significant risk to the long-term health of the Chinese economy.
