China recorded the largest plug-in electric car electricity demand in 2021, at close to 13,700 gigawatt-hours. It was followed by Europe and the United States, with a demand of around 8,000 and 7,400 gigawatt-hours, respectively. Battery-electric vehicles, which run exclusively on electricity, comprised the largest share of this demand.
