Monthly wholesale electricity prices in Bulgaria 2019-2024
In March 2024, the average wholesale electricity price in Bulgaria amounted to some 63.3 euros per megawatt-hour, the lowest power price in the country since May 2021. Electricity prices in the country grew steadily in 2021 and 2022, peaking at over 430 euros per megawatt-hour in August 2022. In 2021, electricity prices soared throughout Europe, the consequence of an energy supply shortage that caused a rise in coal and natural gas prices worldwide. The issue was further aggravated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
