Amount of municipal waste recycled in the European Union 1995-2021
In 2021, approximately 70 million metric tons of municipal waste were recycled in the European Union (EU-27) – a slight increase when compared to the previous year. The amount of municipal waste materials recycled in the EU has almost doubled since the turn of the century. Recycling (excluding composting) accounted for roughly 30 percent of municipal waste treatment in the European Union in 2021.
