**All the facilities within business establishments in Japan became subject to registration from July 2019 onwards.

Uncertified child care facilities refer to those not yet approved by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan (MHLW) under the Child Welfare Act. The figures also include the number of facilities that were approved by prefectural and local governments according to specifically set criteria in the region.
