Japan: number of partners of unmarried men by age 2022

In a survey conducted between December 2021 and January 2022, around 37.6 percent of unmarried men aged 20 to 39 in Japan reported that they never had a romantic partner. In the same survey, the share of single women in the same age group who never had a romantic relationship was lower.

The sample was selected based on the distribution of marital status, gender, and age in Eastern and Western Japan in the 2020 population census.

Original question: "Please indicate how many of the following people you had in your life - number of people (including spouse) you were romantically involved with from junior high school graduation until first marriage. If you are currently not married, please indicate the number of people until now."
