The share of Hungarians attending online courses or using online learning materials for their studies increased between 2019 and 2021 by 14 percentage points. Consequently, nearly every fourth Hungarian used the internet for educational purposes as of 2021, with the highest share of them belonging to the age group of 16 to 25 years olds.
Significance of digital education
As a consequence of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the process of digitalization accelerated and even more aspects of people’s everyday lives moved to the online world. According to the findings of a survey conducted in 2021, the vast majority of Hungarians found it very or fairly important that everyone had access to high-quality online education. However, internet penetration reached only 90 percent in the country during the same year.
Leading educational mobile applications
In 2021, the most downloaded educational mobile application was KRÉTA Tanulóknak which provides students with relevant information regarding their studies and helps keep track of their classes, attendances, and grades. When it comes to revenues, the language learning platform, Duolingo was the highest grossing educational mobile app, followed by EWA: Learn English Language.
