Share of young women married or in union in Sub-Saharan Africa 2021, by sub-region
In 2021, nearly 11 percent of women aged 20-24 years in Sub-Saharan Africa were married or in a union before age 15. The proportion was higher in West and Central Africa, at 12.5 percent. In the same sub-region, over 37 percent of young women were married before reaching 18 years. In Eastern and Central Africa, around nine percent married before age 15, while 32 percent did before age 18.
