India: support for proposed GST hike 2022

In a survey on the proposed goods and services tax (GST) hike in India conducted in 2022, 71 percent of the respondents were opposed to the proposed hike in GST rate structure from five to seven or eight percent, and from 18 to 20 percent. The Indian population is currently experiencing the adverse effects of high inflation and increase in crude oil prices due to Russia's war on Ukraine which in turn led to increase in prices of essential goods.
