Container freight rates from Shanghai to New York increased dramatically between January 2019 and November 2022. The year 2021 saw an especially steep increase in freight rates, reaching a record price of over 15,800 U.S. dollars in September 2021 per 40-foot container. In November 2022, the freight rate index stood at 4,846 U.S. dollars per 40-foot container.
