Almost seven percent of Italians without disabilities had to forgo medical treatments and healthcare over the course of 2019 because they were unable to pay the costs. When considering people with disabilities, this figure more than doubled. About one out of every six people with disabilities in Italy said they had to forgo healthcare because of the same reason. This situation varied considerably from region to region. In Molise, more than one out of four people with disabilities could not afford medical treatments, while in Emilia-Romagna it was one out of 10.
