Diversity of teams at the women's EURO 2022
The lack of diversity in women's football became a topic of discussion after England's EURO 2022 opening game against Austria featured no non-white players. The game sparked conversations over a lack of ethnically diverse role models and barriers to the highest levels of the game. Out of a squad of 23, England had three ethnically diverse players, while fellow finalists Germany had two. Austria, England's first opponents, had none.
