In 2019, Bolivia, Chile, and the Dominican Republic had the highest number of deaths per 100,000 population due to hepatitis B in Latin America and the Caribbean, with an estimate of 3.3 deaths per 100,000 people. Guyana followed, with around 3.2 deaths from hepatitis B per 100,000 individuals. Hepatitis B is a liver infection produced by the hepatitis B virus (HBV).
