In 2021, the total floor area of existing homes traded in Shanghai increased for the third year in a row, reaching 22.9 million square meters. The second-hand residential housing market was generally strong in Shanghai in the past decades, as the city enjoyed substantial economic development and population growth. However, as there are more restrictions on the exchange of second-hand housing in Shanghai, and policies were consistently reviewed and changed, the annual figures fluctuated significantly.
