Energy efficiency of office stock in the Netherlands 2021

From January 2023, office buildings in the Netherlands will need to have an energy certificate C or better to meet the new sustainability requirements. As of the end of 2021, there were six million square meters of office space that were labeled D or worse and 10 million square meters that were unlabeled but did not meet the requirements. Meanwhile, 34 million square meters of office space were labeled C or better and 10 million had met the criteria but were yet to be labeled. Certain types of offices were exempt, such as offices smaller than 100 square meters, buildings with heritage status, or offices that were due to be demolished within two years.
