Breakdown of auction revenue expenditure shares from EU-ETS 2021, by end use

Approximately 20 percent of auctioning revenues generated under the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS) went towards green transportation. Member States must use at least 50 percent of auctioning revenues for climate- and energy-related purposes. Some 34 percent of auction revenues also went towards cushioning the impacts of the energy price crisis in 2021.
