Cathodes used in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) account for the largest share of a cell's cost, making up 51 percent of costs in 2021. Cathode materials include lithium, cobalt, manganese, and nickel. Meanwhile, the anode - frequently made of graphite - accounted for 12 percent of costs that year.
