Demand for various minerals used in the production of electric vehicles (EVs) is forecast to soar in the coming decades. The demand for lithium, a critical component of lithium-ion batteries, is projected to rise over 43-fold between 2020 and 2040, to around 859 thousand tons in the latter year. That same year, demand for graphite, nickel, and copper is expected to surpass three million tons each.
