Construction price expectations in the EU 2023

The price expectations in the construction sector of the European Union had been increasing after dropping sharply during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In April 2022, the index reached a peak value of over 49, which indicates that most respondents expected the price to keep rising. However, price expectations in the sector have been falling again during the past months.

These figures show the share of respondents that had negative, neutral, or positive expectations for the construction industry measured against each other. That means that if 60% of respondents had negative expectations, and 40% of them had positive expectations, the indicator would be calculated as the balance of these two figures: Balance = 40% - 60%. This would result in a value of around -20, given that there were 20% more respondents with negative expectations.
