In 2023, over 32 percent of founders raised between 500,000 and two million euros for their startup in Germany. Only 5.7 percent had more than 10 million euros in funding. This graph shows how much external capital was raised by startups in Germany in 2023.

In this statistic only startups that had already used external capital were counted.

The data comes from the German Startup Monitor (DSM), for which high-quality data sets are collected annually from founders and managing directors of startups. The founders or managing directors (members of the executive board e.g. chief level) of startups received a special questionnaire link by email which was sent through selected DSM network partners. In 2023, 1,825 complete data sets were collected for the survey between May 17 and June 20, 2023.
