In 2022, a survey conducted in the selected African countries found that majority of people would be buying confectionary during the month of Ramadan. This is likely due to the enjoyment of sweets and chocolates during iftar. However, other categories which were high percentage of people bought during the Holy month included: religious and spiritual items, with 69 percent, and apparel and fashion, with 58 percent.
Shopping behavior in Africa during Ramadan in 2022, by country
The respondents were asked : "In which of the following categories do you shop or plan to spend for this Ramadan?"
The sample is representative of the adult Muslim population of the given country in terms of gender and age.
